5 blocks later, I caught up to the same black car that had been driving in the bike lane in the first video. It was in the bike lane again, and this time it used the bike lane to bypass the other car traffic, then ran the red light along with a motorcycle. #Oakland #BikeTooter #BikeOAK

This driver should get a bike, apparently it's faster than driving a car on Bancroft Ave at rush hour, even when the driver repeatedly breaks several traffic laws.

The Bancroft Ave bike lane might be the worst in #Oakland, although I'm sure there's some stiff competition. Here, a car in the car lane turns right, while the car driving in the bike lane goes straight. 🤦‍♂️ #BikeOAK #BikeTooter
A driver (with no license plate, natch) pulled into the bike lane early this evening, then started doing donuts before I'd even gotten through the intersection. Thanks, dude. And thanks, #Oakland. #BikeOakland #BikeOAK #BikeTooter

Congratulations!

This is the first time I have seen pictures/video of a sane bike lane in the US. (I guess some of that is selection bias, people show the insane ones - but having the bikes away from the cars, and separated by a curb, is how 99% of the bike lanes I know elsewhere are :-))

New bike lane just dropped.

I got to take my inaugural ride on the mostly complete Fruitvale Ave bike lane today. It's at sidewalk level and separated from cars by a curb and a couple feet of planting space, a fairly common design elsewhere, but a first here in #Oakland. This is a major bike & pedestrian commuting route between Alameda and BART, as well as a good way to reach the waterfront Bay Trail, so it's long overdue. Thanks to @BikeEastBay, @BikeWalkAlameda and others for years of work to get us here. #BikeTooter #BikeLanes #BikeOAK

Any bike folks in #Oakland or the #SFBA have suggestions for this question from new arrival @LaD_Hallo? "Am new in Oakland and am in the market for a good used bike, maybe a foldable. Are there shops in the Bay you can recommend?"

Give me protected bike lanes, or give me death traps where drivers of cars without license plates use bike lanes as passing lanes WHILE CYCLISTS ARE IN THEM. — Patrick Henry, paraphrased.

This driver on Bancroft near 94th Ave in #Oakland would probably have gone even further in the bike lane if the van parked in it hadn't forced him back into the car lane. #BikeTooter #BikeOAK @BikeEastBay @RapidResponseTeam

Video of a car passenger intentionally assaulting me on San Pablo Ave in West #Oakland around 5:20 this afternoon (June 7). The passenger struck me on the side of my head and helmet, knocking off my glasses. Thankfully, I did not fall over. I am physically fine.

The car was waiting behind/alongside me at a red light on West St, and attacked me as we turned the corner into San Pablo after the light turned green. I was in the bike lane the entire time, and had no prior interaction with the car. The car is a black Nissan Altima with CA license plate 7HFV146. Be careful out there, folks! I love riding bikes, and this won't stop me. It will only make me more determined to make our cities safer for bikes and pedestrians, whether the danger comes from oblivious drivers on their cell phones, or kids riding around intentionally attacking people. 🚲❤️#BikeOAK #SFBA #BikeTooter @BikeEastBay @RapidResponseTeam

Never a dull moment in East Oakland's bike lanes. When you hear dirt bikes behind you, best to get out of the way. This was at Bancroft & 106th today. #WatchYourSix #Oakland #BikeOAK #BikeOakland #Cycling
