A brief meditation on two radically different visions of existence: Heidegger’s resoluteness, where authenticity emerges through conscious confrontation with Being, and Spinoza’s conatus, the silent striving through which every entity persists in its existence. One is existential decision, the other ontological momentum. Yet both resist disappearance. Both insist on presence against the drift toward nothingness.

When the last ladle of a delicious, complicated Eintopf enters the finitude, the ready-to-handness of a sponge and detergent provides just enough of philosophical witt to handle everydayness with grace and patience.

Bilingual Phenomenology

Is the poet a tragic figure trapped in the echo chamber of their own suffering, or a visionary architect of reality itself?

In our latest discussion, we delve into a profound philosophical friction: the confrontation between Søren Kierkegaard’s "aesthetic" sufferer and Martin Heidegger’s "foundational" speaker. Here, the poet is a figure of failed interiority, unable to bridge the gap between private anguish and public song.

A small café scene undergoes reduction: under epoché, the ordinary arrangement of a morning table is bracketed, released from every positing of use or existence. Before any project gathers them, these things remain in releasement, a field of appearances freed from claim or task, where even the simplest objects begin to show themselves otherwise.

Freya Mathews’ relational cosmophysicism, developed in The Ecological Self (1991), provides that ground. Every entity — from inorganic physical processes through organisms to human consciousness — possesses an innate conatus: an intrinsic striving to persist and realize itself according to its own nature.

This essay reads four thinkers — Thoreau, Lispector, Murdoch, and Stein — as stages in a phenomenological progression from solitude to empathy.

From Solitude to Attention

A Phenomenology of Self and Other

Heidegger's claim in §38 in Being and Time that Dasein is tempting to itself (versucherisch) inverts the ordinary logic of temptation. No external lure is required - the pull toward inauthenticity is structural, generated by Dasein's own thrownness into the das Man world. The poem attempts to hold this paradox: that the deepest temptation is not the world but the unlived self, the gap between the self one is and the self one could have been.

Two women who understood that the deepest failures of human life are not failures of will. Clarice Lispector and Iris Murdoch

Two friends - one accumulating weight and binging on Turkish soap operas. The other fit and reading Heidegger. And loving each other despite.

One weeps at a telenovela’s dramatic confession,
The other sobs over Heidegger’s lack of a conclusion.

They tried couple’s therapy—lasted one breath—
“Your Dasein is fine, but who’s gonna share my fries?”

They exercise together: one jogs, one cheers from a chair,
With chips, a fan, and a Turkish drama on air.😆

In my latest paper, I develop a comparative study of Iris Murdoch’s moral philosophy through the lens of phenomenology, Platonic ethics, and critiques of modern selfhood. The essay argues that morality begins in perception, where clear vision becomes the foundation of justice and love.
