My day:

(1) listened to Mining the Dalkey Archive podcast, Chad Post's chat with John Toomey, author of "Sleepwalker", where another novel was mentioned: "Larva" by Julián Ríos, so read this interview https://www.dalkeyarchive.com/2013/09/20/interview-with-julian-rios/ because I can't resist long complicated novels that demand careful attentive reading

(2) read two pieces by Italo Calvino: Art Thefts & "Why Do You Write?", took notes to compare with Maurice Blanchot's answer to that same question

(3) at the writing desk: went through my notes & files going all the way back to Feb in order to tidy up my working documents (e.g. I'd written the final section for "Journeys To ... From Berlin / 2049" a couple of months ago, but had neglected to put those final pages in the main document), polished & revised already written text for "Space Pirates" & also the set up a new working document for a short novel (working title "The Dish, the Spoon, the Cow, & the Moon") that I might get to sometime this summer.

(1) read Jack Kerouac on dreams and where writing comes from

(2) added a mini essay on the joy of writing in my current WIP (spoiler: it's a new Nova Letter)

(3) discovered that if you begin on p. 105 of "Novel on Yellow Paper" by Stevie Smith, if you substitute "America" for Germany & "Duck Fart" for "You Know Who", then you get a fairly accurate description of America in 2025 (Smith's novel was published in 1938)

(4) lunch with R. & talked about a few essays by Italo Calvino

(5) listened to 2 early 70s albums by T. Rex & one by Roxy Music as part of my research for my little novelette, "Horror of Glam Rock" (which I haven't started writing yet)

(6) walk right after the rain, rough surf along the coast, low dark clouds
