You run your data analysis twice and you get different results. If you are not happy with this, then #clojure might be a good option.

Immutability begets reproducibility. Language stability brings about code longevity.

Why not used by everyone? Watch this excellent talk by @kira

Hat tip to #datomic for the FAQ update :)
Open source or not, I would enjoy a chance to use Datomic again and with its new licensing, the probability that happens is higher. #Clojure

Oh also final point, I promise! My Grandad understood something that I think is a big part of my own philosophy too: that people are made up of two things - atoms and stories. When your atoms break down, what's left is stories.

My Grandad wrote his memoirs and sent them to all his grandchildren. We'll pass them down to the next generation, and that way everyone gets to hear about his amazing life and his love for Granny.

Tell your stories. They're precious.

Any experienced programmer worth their salt will tell you that •producing• code — learning syntax, finding examples, combining them, adding behaviors, adding complexity — is the •easy• part of programming.

The hard part: “How can it break? How will it surprise us? How will it change? Does it •really• accomplish our goal? What •is• our goal? Are we all even imagining the same goal? Do we understand each other? Will the next person to work on this understand it? Should we even build this?”

My book about keyboards, Shift Happens, is now on Kickstarter!

There is all sorts of new information about it, and a video, and what I think are very cool tiers and rewards on top of a very cool book.

Please back and spread the word!

Fine, fine. I'll do this year's training my damned self.

Hello, and welcome to your company's oh-so-very-shitty Security Awareness Training. I'm Chief Cloud Economist Corey Quinn of the Duckbill Group, today I'm your Acting CISO while your actual CISO is out finding which bars are open at 9:30 in the morning, and I'll be delivering this training for you because I was absolutely NOT the lowest bidder.

Thread begins here...

Favorite Guitar Hero dev moment:

Suddenly on the intercom: “Hey guys, Ozzy is in the back doing mocap and he can’t perform without an audience. Can anyone come back here and cheer for him?”

Tables and chairs were flipped. Devs were running screaming down the halls.

Then there we were, home made mosh pit, 6 feet in front of Ozzy while he lip synced Crazy Train in a spandex mocap suit. And we raged hard because we were helping Ozzie!🤘

In a new piece, @mmasnick discusses the new tool by OpenAI (the makers of #ChatGPT) meant to detect when something is written by #AI and how its unreliability could cause more problems than it purportedly solves. He also links to a NY Times piece about ways to use AI in #education, and even—with help from a fellow Masto user—proposes his own. If done well, this could actually be a very interesting teaching method. https://www.techdirt.com/2023/02/02/openai-wants-to-help-you-figure-out-if-text-was-written-by-openai-but-what-happens-when-its-wrong/
