#ShoheiOhtani said he had no idea about Ippei’s gambling problem or his contact with the media until recently. I’m still unclear as to how exactly Ippei could have authority to access #Ohtani’s account. No explanation offered there.

#ShoheiOhtani will read a statement in a little under an hour but will take no questions. The story told thus far is a little suspect. Unless #Ohtani has the worst financial manager ever, how would Ippei have stolen that much money? A decent money manager wouldn’t permit multiple large transfers without speaking to the account holder—and Ohtani speaks conversational English! I think the most plausible explanation is he didn’t know he would be in legal trouble so the story changed #baseball #MLB

The only thing that will really change my mind about it is if #ShoheiOhtani is in contact with authorities about prosecuting Ippei for stealing the funds. I know a lot of athletes go broke for poor financial decisions, but are we really to believe someone else had the authority to transfer millions of dollars out of #Ohtani’s account without his okay? I’m a bit incredulous here. But I guess we’ll see how the story develops.

Daniil Medvedev’s strengths used to be serve (it was never big but had great placement) and his reliable backhand (probably the most consistent shot on tour.) The past couple of years his serve has periodically gone missing, and recently his backhand has been error-prone. But his forehand has been bigger! Would be cool if he could add to his game without sacrificing his strengths… #IndianWells #tennis

Jannik Sinner’s body is betraying him a bit—which is completely understandable. But Carlos Alcaraz m stopped trying out-hit Sinner in baseline rallies, stopped red-lining every shot which was very smart. Alcaraz onto the #IndianWells #tennis final

Two #IndianWells semi thoughts so far: -I love how Jannik Sinner now hits so deeply, really forcing the issue. -Carlos Alcaraz is obviously unbelievably talented, but for a few years now (even before on-court coaching was legal) I have thought he relies a bit too much on his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero for mid-match tactics.

Hi all. Been away for a while but thought I’d come back with some #tennis thoughts.

Two #IndianWells semi thoughts so far:
-I love how Jannik Sinner now hits so deeply, really forcing the issue.
-Carlos Alcaraz is obviously unbelievably talented, but for a few years now (even before on-court coaching was legal) I have thought he relies a bit too much on his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero for mid-match tactics.

Apologies for being MIA for a while. Been mostly offline, dealing with life. My #birthday was a few days ago and I am now 30-[mumble mumble] so of course dealing with thoughts of how I’m not where I thought I’d be, mortality… Though I didn’t need a birthday for that.

Also dealing with some #health stuff - I think I have mentioned my back issues previously, but also a possible congenital heart issue now. Just trudging through.
