I do stuff, I have opinions. These are not necessarily my employers opinions. I think I'm funny.

I, like Mark Twain, believe that "Under certain circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer."

I also believe that "Profanity is the crutch of the inarticulate motherfucker."

"would this be fucking unhinged to do in person?" is actually a metric I use about online interactions fairly regularly

I have shared many bathrooms on here that lack privacy. Those were nothing. Sure, this one only has 3 walls, one of which has an open panel of glass... but nothing prepared me for the TRANSPARENT FLOOR.

holy shit thunderbird for android?!
sign me the FUCK UP!

thunderbird has historically had the best spam filtering ive ever seen on a desktop app, and i always wished i could take its training and 'insert it' into spamassassin somehow. but i'll totally settle for having it on mobile!

Then they came for the sarcastic people and I was like oh great that's exactly what we need right now well done to all concerned.

The problem with being a huge nerd who grew up in the '80s and '90s, but who has since become an adult is being torn between the two perfect aesthetic forms of home computer existence - maximalism or minimalism.
@vampiress Just have a strict split down the middle of the desk and have both
@vampiress I prefer the look of the sharp machine
@vampiress
I despise apple, and my last apple was a IIe, of course my first computer was a Honeywell MF so I may have some built in biases.
@vampiress Live action SEL 😅
@vampiress this was definitely peak something
@stroughtonsmith
So many great memories with the PS2. Why do things have to be non-stackable now??

@stroughtonsmith @vampiress

On the topic of minimalism, every time I go to Ikea and see those PS2 slim on display 🔥 I love how casual it looks, almost like having a pile of magazines in a TV stand.

It's a bit of a shame that we'll probably never see consoles with that form factor again.

@stroughtonsmith @vampiress I’ve some love for the pizza warmer PS5 kit.

And also long Saturn

@stroughtonsmith @vampiress Is that a couple of dev units or something?

@nazokiyoubinbou @stroughtonsmith @vampiress Those are either DTL-T10000 (DevKit) or DTL-T15000 (Performance analyzer).

They've got a development version of PS2 in them plus a sidecar Linux box for managing it.

@alexr @nazokiyoubinbou @stroughtonsmith @vampiress hard to tell from the photo; the Performance Analyzer was a very dark blue instead of black. Not pictured: under the desk, a large round foot button on a square base, for triggering captures while your hands were on the controller
@Slagh @nazokiyoubinbou @stroughtonsmith @vampiress You're right; I'd forgotten about the colors. I'd say these are both T10Ks then.
@vampiress I love my consoles to be minimalist with only three PSUs
@vampiress The lower picture is Monday, the top Saturday. Sunday is for making it look like Monday again.
@vampiress that first img making me wish I were alive in the 90s lol
@vampiress I feel like picture one needs an absolutely overflowing ashtray - just for the aesthetic
@vampiress minimalism is null. There is only maximalism.
@vampiress one at work, one in the lair. it is the mullet of tech stacks.
@thejikz @vampiress 💯 Business in the front (office). Party in the back (garage).
@vampiress I guess the exact opposite of hardware maximalism & minimalism is true for prices.

@vampiress

Maximalism, every single day, every single year. 👍

@vampiress That Sharp workstation's monitor is looking back at me! 👀 It seems a little bit distressed though.

#FacesInPlaces

I agree 100%. I tried minimalism, now I'm mad scientist maximalism because I keep getting more computer bits and bobs.

@vampiress

Also, the NeXT cube, which manages to be both.

@vampiress I have always been on the first team. I trust a good cable much more than any wireless connection, I like my keyboards and mice to be big and robust with mechanical switches that click when you press them, I want my PC to be a big box where you can always add another drive.
@vampiress I like a hybrid approach. Tuck the micro computer behind the flatscreen monitor but I need the chunky keyboard.

@vampiress

I have both "aesthetics" set up at different parts of my office and home... it's the diversity that counts!

@vampiress

This is the ideal computer body. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.

@vampiress @dgar my desk still looks like your old one 😂
@vampiress #x68000 form is absurdly awesome. sexy, asian cousin of #a4000
@vampiress gonna be maximalist any day, but minimalism does have its appeal on those kinds of days lmao
@vampiress Minimalism with a lot of electronic chaos.
@vampiress perhaps I'm just cycling back to nostalgia but I say max > macs any day.
@vampiress @emd Whoa! For a split second my heart went pitter-pat! because I thought you had a paper tape reader. 😻😹
@vampiress For me, the fewer the distractions the better. If you are a computer hobbyist, then all the stuff is the point. But I use computers as tools to do my thinking, and I need them to get out of the way.
@vampiress i'd go for the first one
@vampiress Don't forget the transparent purple phase
@vampiress
I remember when my idea of minimalism was a computer which was just a black slab covered with a touch screen. We've got them now and they're crap, screen and keyboard for the win!
@vampiress "inside you there are two genders…"
@vampiress the first one looks like it's on a spaceship holy shit

@vampiress Well, I could never get along with the Apple way. Their version of minimalism means throwing away everything that you enjoy in computing to follow whatever their current whim may be at the time.

I keep wanting to reduce a bit, but I think I'm still leaning more towards maximum, lol. I use a mid-tower instead of a full tower now, but everything else has just grown. Multiple screens, custom keyboard + little gamepad keyboard (a sideways keypad programmed for WASD/etc stuff, lol) a wireless mouse that is always plugged in because I'm paranoid about wiping out the battery, a cheap USB DAC connected to a better quality DAC via SPDIF, and two speaker satellites that aren't huge but also not exactly striving to be tiny either. Oh, and headphones and a hybrid amp for good measure.

@vampiress at the very least, proper mechanical key switches
@vampiress I love minimalism so much that I want to put multiple minimalist systems on my desk at once, thus creating maximalism.
@emmadavidson Maximinimalism?
@vampiress yes this is the aesthetic of my entire life
@vampiress correct-amount-ism is preferable to both
@vampiress One screams function the other screams "doesn't actually use the computer."
@vampiress mac is broign but i want whatever that funny beige box is it looks SICk
@vampiress the entirety of this corner of mastodon hooting at the top picture, rattling tin cups against shelves, saying things like ‘awoooga’
