I do stuff, I have opinions. These are not necessarily my employers opinions. I think I'm funny.

I, like Mark Twain, believe that "Under certain circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer."

I also believe that "Profanity is the crutch of the inarticulate motherfucker."

The EFF quits X
“X is no longer where the fight is happening. The platform Musk took over was imperfect but impactful. What exists today is something else: diminished, and increasingly de minimis.

EFF takes on big fights, and we win. We do that by putting our time, skills, and our members’ support where they will effect the most change. Right now, that means Bluesky, Mastodon, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and eff.org. We hope you follow us there and keep supporting the work we do. Our work protecting digital rights is needed more than ever before, and we’re here to help you take back control."

EFF is Leaving X

After almost twenty years on the platform, EFF is logging off of X. This isn’t a decision we made lightly, but it might be overdue.

In a new blog post, @imanijoy provides a deeper dive into the design process for Collections, and explains what we’ve included (and things that are left out) for the first release. We’ll be enabling this feature on mastodon.social next week, and rolling it out more widely in Mastodon 4.6 very soon. We’re excited to hear what you think!

Ever wanted to use SSH to connect to an embedded Linux system over the serial port instead of suffering through some janky login program that supports very limited terminal features?

Well, I did, and the tooling didn't exist, so I made it.

It also supports ppp automatically.

Tough times often signal that something isn’t working, whether it’s a strategy, a relationship, a career path, or an assumption about how the world operates. A positive mindset allows us to view these signals as valuable data rather than personal indictments. When we’re not defensive or defeated, we can ask better questions: What is this situation teaching me? What assumptions need revision? What strengths have I not yet utilized?

There was a recent study establishing a link between low vitamin D levels in younger adults and later onset dementia.

It’s crazy how this vitamin which is closer to a pseudo hormone at least is from what I’ve read, is so essential and a product of getting a nit of sun.

Certainly supplements exist, but also it says a lot that forager diet have lots of vitamin D in it. Pale skin was an adaptation because of agriculture missing vit D

I just consulted 54 trillion "people" who agree that this is idiotic.
