2026: Not really here anymore so if you want to get in touch visit my site or send me an email/message!

UK based car, computer and lightweight internet nerd. Was once enamoured with cars and still know *way* too much about them. I plan on making #EVs last for as long as possible.

I spend most of my reading and learning time on #sustainable design (particularly houses), social enterprise, #lowimpact and #lowenergy stuff in an attempt to figure out how to live ethically and sustainably.

@WansteadClimateAction @pvonhellermannn @markhburton heat geek are very good and provide software to installers to facilitate affordable installs, they offer guaranteed efficiency levels for different costs - search “heat geek zero disrupt” to find their form and get an indicative quote, it might be less than you expect compared with others.
@sean they also removed VAT on it fairly recently (as in, the last few years) I think.
Tim Cook sold Apple's soul

Apple used to stand for something. Now Tim Cook gifts golden statues to Trump, removes apps at the administration's request, and cozies up to accused rapists at White House screenings. The company I once admired has become morally bankrupt, but leaving the ecosystem feels almost impossible.

I love the #fairphone but I am not in a position to switch away from iOS just yet. Apple are doing their best at putting me off buying a new iPhone in the future however!

If you are in the UK, need to upgrade your phone and would consider a fairphone but perhaps cannot afford it - please let me know and I will contribute towards the cost for you. DMs are fine or I have made an email:

@GeofCox not sure it fits the same mould - and maybe there is a big issue I don’t know about - but I’ve been using Fastmail for a few years personally and for a business which has been good. Not faultless of course but a pleasant switch away from more mainstream email providers.

Masked (throwaway) email generation linked with my password manager has been a particular benefit.
@coldclimate ok yes - I did the same an M1 Pro used and it has been an excellent computer so far - not sure if my next computer will be a Mac again or not but for now it’s great. Screen and sound in particular are excellent features!! Enjoy
@coldclimate is that an Intel model? I thought it was all Apple silicon by then?
The fluctuation between criticism of the car industry and the benefits of good public transport / a small tax on cars / politics - is perfect.

This is so clearly the best video I have ever seen online and I'm not even half way through it.
