I see. I don’t think we do anything like that. We usually make big enough jumps in the house numbers that you can fit an interim number between them later if you have to.

We also have to buy title insurance when we buy a house, because the history of who owns which square foot can get convoluted.

Having formal legal names could be fun, though. I could name my place “The Pantanal”, because that’s where the capybaras live.

@erkhyan
Does that mean registering the name with the government? What does this accomplish?

I've known several people who have named their houses, but AFAIK we don't have any formal process here.

Rats only have blue and green cones, so they primarily can only see those colors. They can't see red. I would think red mostly appears dark to them, because red light would barely stimulate the green cones, if at all.

So the experimenters need to change the colors of the game into something that rats can distinguish. If they do this, they will probably get better results from their experiments.

Authors are not okay, folks. Between AI destroying the industry and wrecking people's careers, and the big spike in piracy since people decided the solution to boycotting Amazon is *stealing* from people who are literally making *pennies* (21 cents per day... that's what I made in book sales in 2025. I calculated it yesterday), we are not okay.

Please, please, please support authors. If you can buy books in places other than Amazon, please do so. If you can't buy books, please borrow them from your library. Request that your library pick up titles from your favourite authors (most libraries have form you can fill out to do that). Leave reviews everywhere you can. Sign up for author newsletters, and follow authors on social media. Repost social media content. Talk about your favourite books - help other people discover that they exist! All of these things *matter*, and you really have NO idea how much they mean to most authors.

The holiday season is especially difficult for those who are alone. Just know that you are not alone and that you matter to others, especially your friends! So go talk to them or just give them a poke!
Happy #FursuitFriday ! 🤗

Unfamiliar with the concept, I kagied "masculine health cults". I'm getting the impression that I don't want to dig any further in that direction.

I genuinely don't know how to process this information.

I googled "microscope". The below screengrabs are from the page Google gave me.

Is that the first thing you people thought of when you got a microscope for Christmas?

Did being asexual so far remove me from the common human experience that I'm only now finding out about this many decades later?

This also would have made a fantastic teaching moment. Did any of you have progressive parents who suggested this as a science lesson?

So I heard the advertisement world gave us another “oh no, he’s cute” wolf.

For years, Intermarché has held a specific crown in the French advertising landscape. The supermarket chain, alongside its agency Romance, has become synonymous with the ‘Christmas tearjerker’ — mini-movies grounded in realism, centered on human connection. But for 2025, the brand has thrown out its own rule book. The humans have (mostly) been swapped for woodland creatures, and documentary realism has given way to a painterly storybook world.

The resulting film tells the story of a wolf who, tired of being the villain, swaps his carnivorous cravings for culinary creativity to win friends. To pull off this ambitious hybrid of live action and 3D animation, the agency tapped two production powerhouses: Divine for the live-action bookends, and WIZZ (with directing collective Illogic) for the animated core.
