Sundays are for reading! Today it's 'Nettle & Bone' by @ursulav.
It's the best kind of prickly fairy tale about a princess who isn't, and a perilous quest (of course) on a path that winds through darkness and horrors—living and undead.
There's magic & curses & blessings & also hope & friendship & bravery & light.
There's also a demon chicken and a goblin market that's one of the creepiest I've ever visited, and I want it to keep going forever.
📚 Recommend: Light from Uncommon Stars, by Ryka Aoki.
This was on my list for awhile before I finally read it, and then I couldn’t put it down. Quirky, complex, fierce, and independent characters, coming together to create family. Intergalactic love story, making deals with the devil, and baking donuts. Great trans main character — doesn’t sugar coat things, but they’re powerful and pull you in.
At the Coffee Shop of Curiosities by Heather Webber -- out this month
Through a budding friendship, two women find the hope of peace and a better future.

Here's some excellent news for a Tuesday: The Kaiju Preservation Society has won an Ohioana Award, the state book award for Ohio, along with books by Celeste Ng, Saeed Jones, Ross Gay, Kelcey Ervick, Jasmine Warga and Marcy Campbell. I'm thrilled beyond belief. I've done quick write-up about it over on my site. Thank you everyone who voted for my book! It means to world (or, at least, Ohio!) to me.
I'm super happy that Science Friday has chosen The Kaiju Preservation Society to be its August book club read. Not only will they (and possibly you!) be discussing the book all through the month, but they will host me in a livestream discussion of the book on August 23rd at 7pm ET. AND ALSO, to top it all off, they're doing a book giveaway where 10 people (one of them possibly you!) will win a copy of the book. All the details are at the link:
