@randfish I guess email is even more important now than ever then, right?

Baseline: Last-click attribution

GA4: Looks like it's giving Google Organic EVEN more attribution than the Universal GA models (b/c organic search is what usually happens after folks hear about your brand/site elsewhere)

If nothing else, the post-Twitter social media arms race has been fascinating to watch.

A new onboarding experience on Mastodon

Today we’re making signing up on Mastodon easier than ever before. We understand that deciding which Mastodon service provider to kick off your experience with can be confusing. We know this is a completely new concept for many people, since traditionally the platform and the service provider are one and the same. This choice is what makes Mastodon different from existing social networks, but it also presents a unique onboarding challenge. To make this step easier, we now have a default sign-up option that works with a server we operate. If you wish to leave or join a different server, you can do so at any time.

My number one #Mastodon tip for people is to boost more!

Discovery sucks on Mastodon, which is partially by design, but it also means it’s hard to find new and interesting people here. If you see something cool, reach for that boost button as well!

@Cat_LeFey Great post!! These are SO important for accessibility. None of the search engines are going to spend compute power to figure out what's in our images. Amazing how some people think they already do.

If you have something to say about web site accessibility and you want to share it with the rest of the world, this is an amazing opportunity to do that! We are putting together an amazing event this year, and I'd love to see some of you be a part of it!!

Speaker applications have just opened for WordPress Accessibility Day 2023. Check it out! https://2023.wpaccessibility.day/participate/speaking-at-wp-accessibility-day/

I saw someone point out today that to a French speaker “ChatGPT” reads like “Cat, I farted” (« Chat, j’ai pété ») and now that is what I am going to think of every time I see it mentioned.

I hope the TV and film writers get everything they are asking for. Without them there’d be nothing to watch at all. And kudos for attempting to protect themselves against AI coming for their jobs. I wish graphic artists had similar power.

Work for a news publisher and syndicating content? Heads-up. Google is now recommending to NOT use rel canonical for syndicated content on partners. They say to block indexing... And that conversation will probably NOT go well with syndication partners. via @rustybrick

Techdirt says it's no longer posting to Twitter after a key WordPress plugin dropped features once Twitter began charging for its API.

@mmasnick says Techdirt is considering alternative social media services, including Bluesky and Mastodon, and affirmed Twitter wasn't driving much traffic to Techdirt articles anyway. https://thedesk.net/2023/05/techdirt-stops-posting-twitter-elon-musk-api-jetpack/
