My follower count on Twitter decreases nearly every day. Lost over 25 in the past week alone. Since I’m not posting I can only assume it’s people deleting their accounts.
Just frustrated, again, with aggressive sales pushes from #snowflake. I don't appreciate the constant almost bullying when I articulate my solution, how it works, how cheap it is, and you can't give me a clear answer for how your platform benefits me. I mean your own platform uses the same data storage layer mine does. What 👏 Is 👏 Your 👏 Value 👏 Add?
What I don't understand is the push to small and mid-level businesses. Where object storage like #S3, #Parquet or Delta Lake file storage, and #Presto or #Athena can work on a few TB of data for $5-10k a month. Especially if you're not doing something like working with IOT telemetry data. Where is the upside? What are you giving me for the money? I don't need on-demand scaling for 250GB of data in S3.
I think if you are a very large org with huge revenue, a large analyst/data science userbase, and heavy workloads with frequent spikes on TBs and TBs of data, it makes sense.
I need to organize my thoughts about #cloud #data platforms. Specifically #snowflake and why I think it doesn't fit for nearly any org with a modicum of engineering talent on payroll. Feels like they very quickly pivoted from selling a platform to selling a platform + consulting services.
I'm gonna tell your grand-kids this is Elon Musk.
I’ve been fighting with Salesforce devs for almost a decade now. The ability to have a 500 column table with no warnings or errors or validation required is nearly indefensible. And the industry as a whole, moving away from bottom up data driven development is costing companies billions of dollars every year.
Cloud providers love it. They want you to pass your revenue directly over to them. Pay for your overages in Salesforce in this case. Forced to use Salesforce reporting tools because Salesforce APIs are poorly performing enough that you couldn’t possibly extract your data in a timely fashion. Total business data capture.
There are only so many ways to get data out of #salesforce and they are all pretty bad tbh. I get that the business model is whole business data capture. Do everything in Salesforce. Don’t worry about your data infrastructure. I’m here to tell you friends that allowing another company to own your data wholesale is not the way. And allowing Salesforce developers to continue to ignore any semblance of good data practices will cost your organization time and A LOT of money.
