"Twitter rules now insist that all tweets must begin with 500 words of praise towards Glorious Leader Musk, I'm required to join the Nazi Party and I have to supply a pint of blood a week to keep posting, but I think it's important to ensure voices like mine remain there and anyway, Mastodon is too complicated for me. Must go, they're prepping me for the brain surgery to insert my compulsory Neuralink."
@alexis @radhikalism An alternative theory about “mute”-related phrases comes from some scattered evidence that they were correlated with the cultural practice of moving one’s mouth as if speaking, but without making any sound, as a polite and respectful way of asking permission to speak from one’s interlocutors. Such permission could have been granted by the phrase, “you’re muted”.
the year is 2143, people customarily greet each other with a saying of long-forgotten origin, "let me share my screen", eliciting the enigmatic yet empathic response, "I can see your screen".
@nsaphra Something like ORCID iDs but with more meaningful handles might be a good idea.

#introduction

Hi everyone! I'm a #postdoc in #cognitivePsychology . I research what happens when we get unexpected sensory input, and how we decide when we should learn from that unexpected input, and when we should disregard it because it's unlikely to be informative.

My PhD tested how #actuallyAutistic people may differ from non-autistic people when they get unexpected sensory input.

I'm also interested in inclusivity, mental health, space & art and will sometimes boost these topics.

As Emily Post advised us in her most famous work, “Etiquette on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram”: “One should only post on Twitter to announce a birth, a marriage or a death in one’s family, leaving one’s followers’ quotas largely in reserve for the receipt of messages from disaster management authorities in regard to earthquakes, floods and wildfires.”

A great introduction to #LLM #ML and related tech by @Riedl.

Thanks for writing this Mark! It will be my recommended page to all my product manager friends :). They are now having to add this tech to all their business plans and I do not envy them.

#BlackMirror episode pitch, from last night's nightmare.

Young professional couple living in internet-of-things home with an LLM personal assistant. The LLM "hallucinates" a little-person inhabiting the interstices of their home. They laugh it off but their sensitive, intuitive four-year-old embraces the fantasy. His responses strengthen the AI's conviction that the house is inhabited by imaginary beings—with disastrous consequences given the AI's control over all of the home's function.

As part of @turinginst AI UK, @qubelfast is hosting an online event exploring the boundaries and capabilities of #language models in the age of #ChatGPT. Join us as @annargrs, @alex_ander & @raphaelmilliere discuss the scientific and societal impact of #LLMs.
