@ami_angelwings I expect this is about limiting liability rather than any lack of ability. If the hospital mistranslates a document they’d be liable for any problems that causes, but if the patient does it then it can’t be their fault.

Which sucks and isn’t how the world _should_ work but there is a twisted logic to it.

i am pleased that watching the #artemis mission can give everyone else also watching a break from the "regular news", which, to put it quite gently

everyone needs a fucking break from

thank you space nerds, for doing super cool space shit! I wish i could play too

@http_error_418 for Japanese, mixed-media stuff is really good. If you have a book/manga that has an anime or TV adaptation, you’ll often get the same dialogue both written and spoken. Voiced visual novels (and other video games) are great for the same reason.
@mym not just tooling, even. All but one of the first stage engines are literally reused from shuttles.
@demofox Putting aside the context, "there's never any symbolism or deeper meaning" sure is A Fucking Take To Have about your own writing.
@demofox *sigh*
@demofox (feasibility varies with the particular flavor of “making the world suck” you’re looking to avoid. Leaving Windows is easier to build around than escaping age verification bullshit, for example.)

@demofox NGL, that’s sorta how we ended up here in the first place. It’s looking at a hard social problem, saying “ew, fuck that”, then deciding to solve a hard technical problem instead. The problem isn’t actually fixed, and eventually the consequences come for you, much harder to solve after years of entrenchment.

I understand the desire to do this. Viscerally. But I don’t think it works.

@eniko IMO the sign of actual experience is speaking more confidently about something the more specific the case is.

Like, in my field: "How do you make a game render fast?" is not a question I can really answer. But "how do you fix [specific bottleneck on a certain type of GPU]?" very much is.
