On a mission to accelerate the Solidarity Economy through technology ♻️

Product Manager and Developer Advocate by day, rants about bad UX in F/LOSS by night. In love with SciPy, PyData, and all things Python. Luddite. Trying to make a positive impact.

Developers are truly weird beings. Deep inside they know that software is just inert, soulless. Structured prose that can be copy-pasted, morphed, thrown away.

They also know that, because of the social dynamics of software, sometimes the only way to make progress is through creative destruction. Starting from scratch and build something that is worse, but better.

And yet they develop an emotional attachment to cherry-picked softwares and feel pain when said destruction happens.

Simply make a pull request from github for the GloomBloop Environment and install Key7ipter (pronounced 'kay-ster') and it'll run on any Linux Xanadu box from the command prompt!!! It produces beautiful outputs each time!" **posts picture of a graph that looks like MS Paint did it ca.1994**

The Moral Implications of Being a Moderately Successful Computer Scientist and a Woman

I recently reached a few high points in my career that coincided, not coincidentally, with some of the worst harassment of my life. It made me reflect on how my career has been defined as much in terms of misogyny as technical excellence (I’ve garnered quite a CV in both), and how I have struggled t

Public policymaking: from AI to decomputing

AI seems to offer many benefits to public policymaking, but it can't address the tricky structural issues that impede actual change.
