The Onion is one of the things keeping me alive.

Media wants us to feel sorry for Israeli soldiers who committed genocide and killed 20 people a day.

Not for the Palestinians who suffered genocide
Not for the Iranian families who lost 170 children
Not for the tens of thousands of orphans in Gaza

They want us to weap for the poor helpless Israeli soldiers who have to live with the trauma of knowing they "just followed orders" to mass murder innocent children like Hind Rajab.

Nah—I hope they enjoy their self made hell in this life & the next

De Telegraaf, the Netherlands’ largest newspaper published an interview with a woman claiming to organise her own evacuation flights from Dubai, promoting seats at €1,600. Bellingcat found that the image in the interview was likely AI-generated, and flight-tracking data suggests no such plane took off.

AI Used to Promote Non-Existent Evacuation Flights From the Middle East - bellingcat

A Dutch newspaper published a story about private evacuation flights from Dubai, but the photo shows signs of AI generation and the flights appear never to have existed.

I've started investing in stocks: Beef, vegetables and chicken. One day I hope to be a bouillianaire.
A rare moment where you root for regime change in all three countries involved

I self-host a lot of stuff. Nearly everything that I use. FOSS and self-hosting is a massive part of my computing experience.

I love reading about people enjoying / exploring self-hosting stuff.

I struggle when people advocate "just self-host it", without giving due consideration to the costs, risks, security considerations, and so on.

I know that I've posted this a few times now, but this discussion seems to pop up quite a lot. So:

'Self-host it' is not the answer

I'm going out on a limb a bit here.

Imagine sharing a link to your fediverse account to someone not on the fediverse, hoping they follow you.

Now imagine instead that the link you share takes them to a beautiful yet simple landing page that carefully guides them to the ideal platform, geographically closest, and helps them through the onboarding process, recommends the best desktop/mobile client and then follows you from their new account.

Stop dreaming. I'm building this. Wanna help?

WebIntents - Universal Follow Button for the Fediverse

Simple, beautiful follow buttons for ActivityPub. Works with Mastodon, Pixelfed, Loops, and all fediverse platforms. Less than 10KB, zero dependencies.

The button has been pressed.

Remember "don't print this email" in signatures that was a bit cringe? It doesn't feel that cringe anymore in retrospect. I'm doing an experiment now with this new email signature :D Anyone doing something similar? Could it catch on?

edit: BTW please absolutely steal/modify this idea if you want!
