AI generated art depicting history and archaeology is actively spreading ignorance

Follow real archaeologists and historians and creators sharing real stuff, not this fake crap that looks nice and pretends to be authentic but gets everything wrong

@archexis Congratulations!

I've just added a reference to your article to the #PleiadesGazetteer page for Albintimilium:

Alb(i)um Intimilium/Albintimilium: a Pleiades place resource

Alb(i)um Intimilium/Albintimilium (modern Ventimiglia) was the main settlement of the Ligurian tribe of the Intemelii. In the 2nd century BC it came under control of the Roman Republic. Albintimilium became a municipium in 89 BC in the tribus Falerna. In the same period the city walls were built, with several towers. The city flourished in the early Imperial period, with baths, an acqueduct and a theater. In the 6th and early 7th century it was a Byzantine kastron, coming under control of the Longobards in 641. During the 7th and 8th century the Roman city was slowly abandoned in favour of a smaller hilltop settlement focused around the Cathedral.

This is something that makes me proud: the first edition of the #PhDAI.reports, the #archaeology #journal made by the #DAI #doctoral #students, is out and was made possible by the efforts of Kerstin Brose, Julienne Schrauder, Annika Skolik, Katharina Zerzeropoulos, and me. Florian Barth has helped us on editing and management. Everything was supported by the DAI, an institution that really believes in the new #young #researchers. Check it out: https://publications.dainst.org/journals/PhDAI/issue/view/515 (German only)

Just became aware of the glTF format for 3D.

If you create a 3D view in @qgis with the qgis2threejs plugin you can save to web/html, but you can also save to *.gltf and then simply import to @Blender and use all the awesome 3D tools for animation and more there.

I need to learn more about glTF and 3D Tiles...

The Elgar Handbook @sergerey and I edited on Spatial Analysis in the Social Sciences (or, SASS) has arrived! 🎉🎉 Couldn’t be prouder or more grateful for all the contributions and hard work that folks put in to make this a reality. ToC and details to come. Right now I’m just going to bask.

Here's another photo of some crop marks revealing buildings from Libarna. In this photo you can see where the remains of two temples and a basilica. The two temples were partially excavated in the early 20th century but our drone was the first to document the basilica (the long building on the right). There is also evidence of another building behind the farmhouse that we are quite keen to investigate more. (image by Michael Boyles)
