Tech nerd, new Linux geek, privacy accelerationist (priv/acc), lover of all things open source. Also: Christian, tea-head, Tolkien and Lewis fanaticism.

I'm not new to the Fediverse, but I've taken a long break after a bad experience. Patience may be needed.

@codytherudeguy I had never actually heard of this, looks good but I use Wayland more than X11 so I'm not sure it'd be a great fit for me.

Yes, unfortunately. They're one of the few compromised orgs in the Linux space that I can't really drop. As much as it sucks that their organization is like that, they do still make a great DE and software.

Easily the best-looking Plasma theme out there, in my book. I have yet to find another one that understands both aesthetic beauty AND functionality/visibility the way this one does.

@codytherudeguy I'm not using the Invidious API with Freetube, though. I'm using their local API, as the Invidious API has been problematic for a long time due to that lack of maintenance.
@codytherudeguy True, but I don't have a problem with the underlying code: so long as downstream developers in various forks and projects can modify the code and make it suckless (or close to it), it doesn't really matter much to me who the upstream maintainers and devs are.

I can't be the only one who feels like Freetube is becoming less and less of an enjoyable experience, especially since the most recent updates to the video player?

I mean, I obviously don't blame the devs and contributors, I blame Google for continually making it hard on them... but still, it's becoming a painful experience. Videos reload randomly, you have to wait for a countdown and reload (and sometimes it gets stuck in a loop), etc. 🤷‍♂️

Ah okay, I figured it might have trouble with that if it's simpler than standard Linux.
@geerlingguy
I fully intend to do this at some point when I can afford the hardware. For now, I just directly host all my music files in lossless on my PC directly, and I manually watch Blu-Rays on a dedicated player.

You don't need to pirate if you want to own your media and self-host Jellyfin #homelab

Gotcha. I might give one of them a try in a VM or one of my spare laptops just to see what it's like. Does it handle games well?
