@inlustria Crazy amount of races, and a very respectable ranking. The point dip makes sense with people getting more serious during the tournament.

I didn't join many races this season, but had a lot of fun in the tournament. Of course I got matched up with Ralex for my last match in the silver bracket xD

@curtmack I've been mentoring in the SMRAT mentor tournament and it definitely reminded me of this fact, hahaha
@ch1pset I've been seeing his progress in the SM speedrunning discord while we were both grinding GTC (I was practicing for the last GTC tournament), and he was making some crazy fast progress in that category. He's popped into my stream a couple times and seems like a nice dude. Sorry to hear he's been going through some hard times.
@AndrogynousWater I'm extremely biased, but I'd suggest Super Metroid. But, I think the best game to speedrun is the one you played a ton as a kid and still play on occasion (Super Metroid just happened to be mine).

Double Detonation in Type 1a Supernovae

Type 1a supernovae are agreed to be explosions of white dwarf stars, the remains of stars similar in mass to our Sun. They’re thought to be triggered when extra mass — from a nearby companion star, for example — triggers a runaway fusion reaction in their carbon and oxygen, elements that white dwarfs generally don’t have enough mass to successfully fuse. The runaway fusion then blows the star apart.

But there’s another theory — demonstrated through numerical simulations — that suggests an alternate mechanism: a small explosion on the star’s surface could compress the interior enough to trigger fusion of the heavier elements there, thereby triggering a second detonation. The two explosions would happen in quick succession, making them difficult to detect, but astronomers predicted that each explosion could create a shell of calcium; given enough time, those two shells could drift apart, allowing astronomers to see a shell of sulfur between them.

The team looked to a supernova remnant about 300 years old, and using a spectrograph from the Very Large Telescope, they were able to image — as predicted — a two shells of calcium, separated by sulfur, supporting the double-detonation hypothesis.

The impact of double-detonation in Type 1a supernovae could be far-reaching. Right now, the intensity of these objects seems to be consistent enough that astronomers use their brightness to estimate their distance. Over the years, those distance estimates have been used to measure the universe’s expansion and provide evidence for the existence of dark matter. But if Type 1a supernovae are not all the same intensity, we may need to reevaluate their use as a universal yardstick. (Image credit: ESO/P. Das et al.; research credit: P. On this day in 1999, we released Ágætis byrjun.
An album of sleepwalkers, submarines, and slow beginnings. 26 years on, thank you for listening.
What song stayed with you?

#TreasureTuesday: In Super Metroid, director Yoshio Sakamoto frames Samus Aran’s search for the last Metroid as a dark, melancholic, and grotesque descent into an otherworldly ecosystem that seems to reject the player like an intruder. Game designer Felix says: No 2D Metroidvania has ever made better use of the then newly defined genre’s strengths. A prime example of atmosphere, pacing, and exploration! ❤️‍🔥 (Screenshots by Nintendo)

@distantmeadows Best game of all time and the speedrun community is top notch (friendly, inclusive, and helpful)!
@scribblemacher Having done many speedruns and randomizers, and a decent amount of hacks of Super Metroid, I agree that you learn so much about how games work.
@setsideb I have ran tons of different categories of SM speedruns and countless randomizers, so I play rom hacks because they make me feel like I'm playing a new version of the game I love.
