Hey, question for the pastry chefs and food scientists in my pocket pal group, in the category of "Will this kill me?"
I made cowboy cookie dough last weekend. I baked four trays and then put about two trays worth in a sealed catering container in the fridge.
I just took the dough out, and it smells like I added booze to the dough. Not unpleasantly so, the aroma is that of an oak aged old cognac. But I've not added cognac to this cookie dough.
I don't understand fermentation, but I don't think anything in dough can ferment in a fridge, can it?
Ingredients: butter, ground oats, wheat flour, cinnamon, salt, baking powder and soda, lemon juice, milk chocolate chips and dark chocolate bar bits.
Anyone know what could cause this, and if it's dangerous? (I baked and ate a cookie, but Daughter is convinced I'm mere moments from an Ergot episode where I will declare myself a witch and start a bonfire. To be fair, it is Friday, so I might...)

Interested in working at DAIR? We're hiring a communications lead, who we needed yesterday. Is that you? Please apply. Is that people you know? Please share the job ad with them so that they apply.
đź’Ąđź’Ąđź’Ą No "AI" generated applications please. We read every application. E.g. we read through nearly 600 internship applications a couple of years back. It's pretty easy to tell whether someone is blasting slop or truly spending the time to apply.
I disliked the AI summaries in Gmail from the instant they appeared. I can read, dammit, and all the summaries are doing is cluttering up the workspace.
Lookee! You can turn them off! Here's how: https://opus.ing/posts/how-to-remove-ai-overviews-gmail
Welp.
As of this morning, I am no longer employed, and am looking for a new role.
If you happen to know anyone hiring remote positions in the US, and looking for:
- Lead/Senior/Principal level software engineers (Ruby/Rails, React, NodeJS, etc.)
- Business Analysts
- Engineering Managers
please let me know.
