@itsfoss as I am finding myself using the #foss #desktop more and more; such #opensource #tools are becoming more handy with each iteratio.

So, although I often prefer #cli 9/10 cases I'll give these #search tools a try too for my graphical interface on my workstation.

Thanks for compiling the list and sharing!

In the Weights is your new AI-centric vanity search | TechCrunch

So ... what's your In the Weights score?

BTW when we disenshittify seach & make it work again, can we finally get proper filtering, too?

Most "filtering" is basically just metadata (e.g. time, date, size) and/or search-terms-as-categories.

Actual filtering, however, is subtractive: "Give me everything except X".

As of right now I have never, ever seen that implemented in search anywhere & I find myself missing it almost every time I search for something.

So thanks in advance I guess. 😁

When they say AI is "for entertainment purposes only" they're not kidding ... [I tried the SCP-565 search with DuckDuckGo's Duck.ai assistant and got essentially the same result, it appears to have no clue that SCP entities are fictional.]

Google's AI Overviews Feature Is Telling Users That SCP Horror Fiction Entities Are Real

Google's AI Overviews are presenting sci-fi and horror phenomena from the famously fake SCP Foundation fan-fiction universe as real.

Search was invented so you wouldn't have to scroll through content manually trying to parse if what you were looking for is there.

"Intelligent" search has sent me right back to that - fortunately I was always pretty good at it, but on the other hand, it doesn't fit very well with my understanding of the concept of intelligence...

another day, another time to shill #yacy as your #search

please use it and make search nicer for everyone there :-3

As search engines want to give us "answers" instead of linking to actual websites written by actual people, we need a way to empower users to search on their favorite websites directly. It already exists, it’s OpenSearch. But it’s impossible to discover for most users.
Why are browsers not providing a JS function and/or a *visible* option to add the search engine with a shortcut? Any idea how to improve this situation?

Does your search engine’s name begin with B, D or G? It’s ethical score is at best “average” and at worst “poor”. @ethicalconsumer took a look and weren’t impressed.

Have you taken a look?

Check out the search engine starting with M. You’re supporting the top scoring ethical option which quietly leads on privacy protection, the climate, tax conduct etc.
