@bomkatt Sounds like the author decided "oh this would be a cool setting" and chose not to think through the implications and consequences!

(What's the book, pray tell?)

I'm looking to create a home PDF reference library since it's becoming increasingly hard to Google things. My current focus is home repair, crafts, gardening, and reference but I'm sure it'll expand quickly. I imagine several other people on the fediverse are much farther along with similar efforts and I am looking for whatever useful resources other people have found. Weird PDF hoards, extension office websites, etc. Please boost!
generalized US legal question: If you don't have a lawyer, and there might come a time in the future when you might want to attend a protest, how would you go about choosing/finding a lawyer you might call if you needed to make a phone call to your lawyer? Is there a particular specialization to look for, or some kind of find-a-lawyer list, or what? Or do you just rely on a public defender to be available?

Do I know any fedi-friendly recruiters, who fancy helping out Mastodon gGmbH with some imminent recruiting?

There is a petition on the UK Parliament website to legally recognise nonbinary as a gender – which would include an X marker on UK passports for nonbinary people.

The deadline to sign is March 2026 and at the time of writing only 213 people have signed.

Let's show them the power of the Fediverse. At 100,000 signatures, the petition will be debated in Parliament.

Petition: Legally recognise non-binary as a gender

Non-binary isn’t a legally recognised gender in the UK. We urge the Government to legally recognise non-binary as a gender and people who identify as non-binary in the UK. This proposal would include an X marker on UK passports for non-binary people.

It's been over a year since my layoff, and finding a new position has been just short of impossible. I'm looking for a position in Software Engineering/Web Development to further my 10 years in the industry. US based in VA, but preferably looking for remote or PNW. I'm familiar with multiple frameworks and languages, and work primarily back-end but have worked full-stack.

Help is greatly appreciated!

Finished this gorgeous pattern, and I'm glad that it's done but I've loved stitching it.

Prompt from (oops) 1/6: Fish

I got behind on the prompts due to dental work and real life taking up a bit more time. Being a week behind at this point, I'll not plan any pushes to catch up, as it were, but I'll do selected prompts at my choosing. I will try to keep them relatively simple and short, in the spirit of daily prompt art, but I may be doing the last ones in, oh, March or April.

Hey, my name is Niek, and I am a newbie, when it comes to Mastodon or social media in general. By engaging with this platform, I hope to find more individuals who share similar interests. In layman’s terms, I am somebody who loves to talk about medieval manuscripts and her magnificent languages, modern-day dictionaries and etymologies, almost all genres of English literature (but a massive Gothic fan and author) and world history! #introduction #history #medieval #histodon #linguistics
@kristiedegaris Both her books are great, as is her website, The Loopy Whisk! (My go-to everyday bread recipe comes from there, and I bought her first book largely because I was so grateful for the bread recipe!) https://theloopywhisk.com/
