Yesterday I went out for a non-Super Bowl party. Instead of watching the game, we watched a bunch of Doctor Who episodes - much more fun!

I'm contemplating relocating my account to a different Mastodon server, DMV.community, which is locally focused on the DC area. I don't post much about software any more and just boost general (if quirky) news.

A man named Bruno Schröder was a mining engineer for most of his life. When passed away in his 80s in June 2022, he had around 60,000 or so books spread out on the 4 floors of his house in Mettingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The books likely weigh about the same as 15 modern cars. 📚

WashPost: 10 spring movies that (mostly) aren’t sequels

"Ostensibly the story of R.M. Renfield, a supporting player in Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel “Dracula” ... Nicholas Hoult plays the servile title character, but it’s the Count himself, played by Nicolas Cage as the most horrible of all horrible bosses, who is sure to steal — or at least take a very big bite out of — the spotlight."

People who prefer ketchup over mustard are annoying because as soon as you say you like mustard, they go on and on about how much they hate it. Like, okay. You have the same flavor palette you had when you were 5 but that doesn’t mean you should insult what I put in my coffee.

Physicist John Tyndall is often credited w discovering the greenhouse effect, which he wrote about in 1859.

But female scientist Eunice Foote published a paper - 3yrs earlier - demonstrating how atmospheric water vapor & CO2 affected solar heating. She theorized that heat trapping gases in Earth’s atmosphere warm its #climate.

Tyndall was widely read. And Foote, being a woman, wasn't even permitted to present her own work.
