The ancient crooked path that wanders its way across the western part of the #IsleOfWight, is one of the most ancient chalk roads in the country.

It follows the path of the ancient #burial mounds and #tombs that run the spine of what the Islanders call the ancient #dragon.

Druid's Temple was built on the orders of one William Danby, near the village of Ilton, #Yorkshire around 1800. Danby constructed the Stonehenge-like monument to provide employment during an agricultural depression. He was less successful at finding a silent druidic hermit to occupy his folly - though several men signed the seven-year contract, none could stick at the job. #history #weird #mythology #folklore #psychogeography

"In the dark, sylvan villages of medieval England, people named places after the birds that filled the night with music."

This is a lovely longish read about birds & place names by a good friend of mine, Michael Warren. There's a book on the way too - also excellent based on the chapter I've seen.

Day 7 of my #FlowerAdventCalendar is apple blossom. It's good to think of spring on a very chilly day. #gardening #GardeningMastodon

It's customary to 'Tell The Bees' of a death in Shropshire.

In 1961 the Bee's of Sam Rogers from Myddle (totalling 14 hives) were told of his death as custom dictates. Having heard of his passing, they turned up at his service and settled on the flowers at his grave 💚

@nfraser Pye here, 😁 followed. Just finding my way around.

Since everyone else is doing one, here's my #Introduction! I'm a soil ecologist (researching invertebrates such as earthworms and springtails) and a macrophotographer.

You'll often find me out with my camera flipping rocks and logs, and taking photos of all the amazing life in the soil, and then sharing those photos online to spread the love for the hidden world beneath our feet!
