Yesterday I started lifting this year's garlic crop at the allotment. I think the variety is early purple, planted back in October last year. I gave the plants some protection from the worst of the winter weather but this was not strictly necessary. Garlic is ready when the tops turn yellow and start to bend over.
We also picked gooseberries and radishes.

How the big pond at the allotments looked as I was leaving yesterday evening. Contrails, eh? Always spoil a photo, I think ๐Ÿ˜” #allotmentlife #allotments | #kent #england

This is the view up the allotment for the end of May. The potatoes are growing well (foreground) and behind them you can probably make out tiny newly-planted leeks and onions. The onions grown from sets and the garlic are flourishing. To the left, the canes are in place for planting the runner beans and climbing French beans.
Behind the canes, the broad beans are flowering well. Pumpkins and courgettes have been planted.

Very too hot today, #allotments watered early, now at home trying to cool off.
Scenes from the footbridge across the big pond at the allotments, taken this Thursday just gone. I only managed a brief visit, but I hope to get down there for longer tomorrow ๐Ÿคž #allotments #ponds | #kent #england

This is is my monthly view up the allotment for the end of April. The potatoes are starting to come through, some with a catch-crop of radishes and salad leaves between the rows. Most of the onions grown in the greenhouse from seed have been planted. There's not much room left for the leeks, which are nearly ready to go in. Broad beans and peas are taking off on the far side. The Bramley apple tree is in full bloom.
