If you use Verizon and don't need to receive email-to-SMS, you should do this. Verizon really should have made this opt-in, not opt-out, and provided allow list capability for those who need it. [Edited to make link direct to Verizon.] https://www.verizon.com/about/news/block-email-text-messages
Verizon protects customers at home, on the go, and everywhere in between

Verizon is leading the way in revolutionizing the fight against spam with security tools, a fortified network, and blocking email-to-text messages from spammers by texting OFF to 4040.

Subsea cables are one of the most critical ways that we all get #InternetAccess But they are not well-understood by most people. This is an *excellent* explainer piece about how the cables work, their history, how they are installed, and what threats there are. Great way for those interested in learning about how the #Internet actually works!

Also includes a 4-minute video that explains more and has helpful video and images.

Attached: 1 image I spent a lot of time and talked to a lot of people to learn about the subsea fiber optic network that's draped across the bottom of the world's oceans. Here's the result and a thread about it 1/n: https://www.cnet.com/home/internet/features/the-secret-life-of-the-500-cables-that-run-the-internet/

Hawaii's Kilauea volcano erupts again, summit crater glows

HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaii's Kilauea began erupting inside its summit crater Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, less than one month after the volcano and its larger neighbor Mauna Loa stopped releasing lava.

BTW, here's a little interesting fact. You may have noticed that cameras in the House the last few days are frequently focusing on groups of congresspersons and areas other than the front of the chamber. This is NOT typical. C-SPAN operates the cameras and feeds them out. Normally, House leadership controls where the cameras point, and that is virtually always to the front, avoiding any other areas or groups of persons in the chamber. But with the House leadership in limbo, C-SPAN has full control, and they're wisely making the most of it!
An FCC on Hold

It’s now 2023, and it’s been two years since Ajit Pai left the FCC and created an open Commissioner spot. It’s always been routine for the Senate to replace open Commissioner slots within a reasona…

This lighthouse is SO UNIQUE! It's called Þrídrangar, which means "three rock pillars". It is located 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometres) off the southwest coast of Iceland, in the archipelago of Vestmannaeyjar, often described as the most isolated lighthouse in the world. The lighthouse was built there in 1939.

It's such a INCREDIBLE location for a lighthouse, perched on a rock in Iceland's wild surf. Originally constructed and accessible only by scaling the rock on which it is situated, it is now accessible by helicopter since the construction of a helipad.

Despite the promise made to me PERSONALLY by Chief Justice Roberts, $$$ economy-class access to state legislative codes is all I can get, and that's antiquated as hell. The CD-ROM service they sell me for $3,000 per state per year is compatible with an 8088 Intel processor and they recommend at least 12 megabytes of RAM.

This batch is 1.7 gbytes, 1,511 files. I've processed 37 of these CD-ROMs this year.

Why is the system so broken? It is deliberate. This is what a walled garden looks like.
