Come on #MBTA, really? Heading to the Cambridge Jazz Festival and I really wanted to take the T. I really did. But when you see that the next train is 20+ minutes away and you know you’re then going to hit slow zones? And your GPS tells you it will take 35 minutes to drive and over an hour on the T? Then the T doesn’t seem like a great choice, and #Boston, we really have to deal with that. #publictransit

After decades of planning and construction, today around high noon, LA Metro opened the long-awaited Regional Connector, a 1.9 mile #lightrail #subway tunnel in downtown Los Angeles connecting the former Blue/Expo terminus at 7th Street/Metro Center with the former Gold Line. The tunnel will provide new and improved connectivity by allowing Metro’s light rail lines to operate through the downtown core, rather than terminate there (as the Blue and Expo lines did previously) or skirt its edge (as the Gold Line did previously). The new services using the Regional Connector are the A Line (running between Azusa and Long Beach) and the E line (running between East LA and Santa Monica), with both lines serving 3 new stations built as part of the project.

The picture is my track map of the downtown portion of the system with the Regional Connector, destined (at some point) for printing on a T-shirt.

Congratulations to LA on accomplishing this important step forward in the expansion of its #rail #transit network.

Check out a cool webinar my colleagues and I gave on stream restoration. Two great projects that were led by municipalities. We are hoping to advance more restoration projects soon 🐟🏞
