Finished John Williams' "Augustus" tonight.
I was not prepared for the last line to be that chilling.

Stopped out at Mass Audubon Stony Brook on the way home tonight for my daily walk instead of hitting the rail trail near my office. Haven't gone through all the photos, but I knew this one would finish up nicely as soon as I shot it.
Well, this was the final number when I turned it in as the trade-in for a 2026 Accord Hybrid today. 296,132 miles over the last 12 years, which I would have hit a lot faster without 2 years of work-from-home in there.
Not counting insurance and excise taxes, but including the original purchase price, all the fuel and maintenance, and the value at trade-in, worked out to about 21.6 cents per mile. Not too shabby.
New one started at 8 miles.

This is the recipe from Lewis & Poliafito's "Baked Explorations". I've made it before, and the frosting is… recalcitrant. It's an ermine frosting, but the technique isn't what I'm used to and it always takes longer to smooth out than it should. I have ideas for next time, duly noted in the Omnomnomicon.
