Last week I spoke at the very lovely Web Day Out about browser support. One of the things I mentioned was how the data behind Baseline gives you a way to look into the future of the web platform. I've written some more about that on my blog https://rachelandrew.co.uk/archives/2026/03/20/look-into-the-future-of-the-web-platform/

"An error occurred". Why is this the same story with every Government procurement portal ever?

I tried "contact our Customer Support Team" about this error and the contact form sent me straight to this error page.

Pretty spectacular and fascinating article on insect migrations, documenting how butterflies cross oceans and moths use the stars to make their way around Earth:

Butterflies crossing oceans, moths navigating by the stars: unravelling the mysteries of insect migrations

Trillions of insects embark, largely unnoticed, on epic journeys every year across mountain ranges, deserts and seas, and it is only now, as their numbers suffer huge declines, that scientists are tracking their movements

I’m winding down with two excellent clients I’ve been working with since January, which means I’ve got some availability for new work coming up soon.

If you need a designer who thinks deeply about systems and teams, and who will ooh and/or ahh over an especially pretty serif, I’d love to chat with you!

Hi, I’m Ethan. I’m a web designer who helps companies make beautiful sites and services that work everywhere.

font-size-adjust - CSS | MDN

The font-size-adjust CSS property provides a way to modify the size of lowercase letters relative to the size of uppercase letters, which defines the overall font-size. This property is useful for situations where font fallback can occur.

I made a big upgrade to my little `font-size-adjust` tool. You can now upload a font, configure some variable axes if needed, and it will spit out the values you'd need for `ex-height`, `cap-height` or `ch-width`.

Jemima absolutely rocked it. What an opener. Set the tone for the day: funny, geeky, love for the native web.

#WebDayOut

I had such a good day at #WebDayOut yesterday. Really enjoyed giving my talk on web typography to a lovely crowd – warm, knowledgable and supportive.

All credit to my colleagues at @Clearleft especially Louise and @adactio for putting together a great day.

So glad we filled the house in the end, because the other speakers were brilliant, with talks that deserved, and needed, to be heard.

I'd be so grateful if some kind soul could improve this tool so that you can drag and drop a font onto it.

(Just be kind to me regarding the ancient code that's there currently.)

Then I can also expand it to cover the other metrics that font-size-adjust now supports.
