The New York Review of Books

Hello Mastodon Peeps.

I have a birth announcement.

(Yeah, I know it's corny, but I've been creating birth announcements for each book, beginning with my firstborn novel in 2001. Back then I didn't have photoshop.)

(Edited because I had the wrong date of my firstborn. My oldest is over 21!)

And now, a moment of reflection. After so many books (and several decades of writing) I understand that writing books is a way to leave my footprint on the earth. My contribution: Books that go to schools and libraries.

(Not that I am going anywhere. I intend to live forever. But occasionally I suppose we all think about mortality.)

I have a blog post ready. This one is about the intersection of brain chemistry and politics.

It's here: https://terikanefield.com/your-brain-on-ideology/

When the Guardian, the Telegraph, and Communications Professor Jennifer Mercieca recommended The Ideological Brain: The Radical Science of Flexible Thinking by Leor Zmigrod, I figured I should get a copy and read it.

So I did.

Here's my 2 picture summary of the book ⤵️

Your Brain on Ideology - Teri Kanefield

When the Guardian, the Telegraph, and Jennifer Mercieca recommended The Ideological Brain: The Radical Science of Flexible Thinking by Leor Zmigrod, I figured I should get a copy and read it. So I did. Leor Zmigrod is a political neuroscientist with an impressive resume. Her book is about how our brains function and why so […]

GOP Senators voted to cancel Donold’s tariffs on Canada. I almost forgot that Congress could rebuke him if they really wanted to.

Four recent loaves of bread, all #sourdough, made in our NEW kitchen. It is sooooo nice to finally have an oven again.

I was able to reawaken 2 starters: one had sat in the back of the refrigerator for over 6 months; the other was just over 3 months old. The older of the two turned out to be the stronger starter; it came roaring back to full potency with just a couple of feedings.

Hi, Mastodon Peeps,

I have my blog post ready.

Last month, I talked about a philosophical journey for perspective on today’s politics.

Plato is always a good place to start.
I’ll also talk about TV lawyers and the spirit of liberty because . . . it follows.

An election happened since my last blog post, so I’ll have a bit about that as well. I also included a section on what to expect moving forward.

Making Philosophy Cool Again, Chapter 1: Euthyphro, The Spirit of Liberty, TV Lawyers (and more) - Teri Kanefield

Last month, I talked about a philosophical journey for perspective on today’s politics. Plato is always a good place to start. If you’ve never delved into Plato, you’re in for a treat. I’ll try to be a helpful tour guide. I’ll also talk about TV lawyers and the spirit of liberty because . . . […]

The current state of the kitchen ... We are getting closer but have hit a snag between the holiday and the availability of workers.

Fingers crossed that the 'new' schedule still holds after the holiday (Turkey Day for those not in the US).

This morning’s kitchen update: MORE cabinets came in and, believe it or not, these are NOT all of the base cabinets … and we still have to get the uppers in. Though, most of them will not come in until the long countertop goes in.

We are gonna have SO MUCH counter space for bread making!!!
