This morning’s bake. #Sourdough, of course. About 1/3 hard red whole wheat. One for the freezer and one for cutting into later, for lunch.
Fresh from the oven just now: #sourdough loaf of 2/3 bread flour and 1/3 whole hard red wheat and rye (about 2:1) rolled in oats before final rise. There is a companion loaf in the fridge to bake off tomorrow morning.

It’s a bee-you-tee-full (as my high school English teacher would have said) day down here in chemtrail land, where the FAA unilaterally decided to close down the airports while CBP shot down a party ballon with a ‘high energy’ weapon.

A yard work day, for sure!

Things you do when you FINALLY get 8 hours of sleep and there is NO WIND and the air is clear of dust.

Shade cloth for the ‘tender’ plants has been put in place.

Four recent loaves of bread, all #sourdough, made in our NEW kitchen. It is sooooo nice to finally have an oven again.

I was able to reawaken 2 starters: one had sat in the back of the refrigerator for over 6 months; the other was just over 3 months old. The older of the two turned out to be the stronger starter; it came roaring back to full potency with just a couple of feedings.

The current state of the kitchen ... We are getting closer but have hit a snag between the holiday and the availability of workers.

Fingers crossed that the 'new' schedule still holds after the holiday (Turkey Day for those not in the US).

This morning’s kitchen update: MORE cabinets came in and, believe it or not, these are NOT all of the base cabinets … and we still have to get the uppers in. Though, most of them will not come in until the long countertop goes in.

We are gonna have SO MUCH counter space for bread making!!!

This is a refrigerator’s eye view of the current state of the kitchen. Painters are here this week and next week the new cabinets start to go in. New floors the first week of December - fingers crossed!!
Further (maybe even farther?) adventures in renovation cooking: Huevos Rancheros, Randy-style, via some combination of induction ‘burner’ and microwave (which very handily makes tostadas from corn tortillas).
Major kitchen demolition underway. We are one week into it and it feels like a year. We've been planning and preparing for this for the last 5 months but you can never be fully ready for a project of this scope. Our vision of the finished product tells us that this will all be worth it in the next 'few' weeks.
