For a while, I really wanted to disconnect.

I decided to replace my smartphone with a "dumb phone". I spent a few weeks searching for one that would meet my requirements, with no success. Some had hidden Chinese browsers, some came with Facebook installed on root level, or were simply too expensive. Mudita Pure seems great but costly and not available.

A few weeks ago, I just turned off my smartphone and never turned it on again.

Why, oh why, did I not do this sooner?

I've been using digiKam since January.

It's much better for library management than Lightroom. As FOSS, it doesn't "call home" except for updates. All processes happen on the device, and face recognition data is stored locally.

I loaded hundreds of thousands of photos, and it took less than a week to have the whole library neatly organised. I wouldn't go back to Lightroom even if it were free.

After a few decades shooting with Canon, I parted ways with most of my beloved EF gear.

I thought I'd feel more sad about it (I get attached to objects), but this beauty has completely overshadowed any doubts or regrets.

Just look at it. I'm already in love.

I just closed my bank account.

Turns out their app couldn’t track my GPS coordinates (my location services have been off for months now) so they asked me to reconfirm my address.
