I am almost missing the good old days in which retired engineers or new undercover Einsteins used to sent me their theories of everything (without equations, or with un-intelligible scribbles etc).

Now instead, they send me "their interesting conversations with Grok/ChatGPT" and I just want to cry in despair.

The #AI bubble has even managed to ruin the fun in #retired_engineers, and I cannot forgive the AI hype for this (besides other things).

Allow me, though, to bring up Henry David Thoreau in a respectful fashion. Because he deserves it. Because we arent doing well enough ourselves to really criticize him.

Civil Disobedience is a reportback about an act of civil disobedience he did. Its during the Mexican American War and there are war taxes but Henry wont pay them because he doesnt support the war.

Mind you, this did not end the Mexican American war. But it was a huge public tantrum about how things are.

Can you afford a big public tantrum today? If so, you should consider it because Thoreau would totally do it if it wasnt a huge deal and he would get a slap on the wrist about it. But he would make it an epic tantrum. Earn that slap.

both parents caught covid a couple weeks ago. they're 80. so that's not good.

today at the grocery store i was the only one wearing a mask, i never stopped masking.

covid is still here, it hasn't magically gone away, it still kills and incapacitates people.

His wife refused to let them take him without her and the children. ‘If you deport him, you deport all of us,’ she said. Guatemalan immigrants work on a crop field at a farm in Kern County. In the vast agricultural lands north of Los Angeles, stretching from Ventura county into the state’s Central valley, two farmers, two field supervisors and four immigrant farm workers told Reuters this month that the Ice raids had led a majority of workers to stop showing up. That means crops are not being picked and fruit and vegetables are rotting at peak harvest time.

and the group that patrols these zones is the police under DHS

ICE just had their budgets massively increased, so now have the budget of a major military

& their target, ppl can say what they want, but Mexican and venezuelans are nationalities, when you boil it down the target is the indigenous ppl of the americas

with this zone we are creating a new trail of tears
