These are the gas temperature (left) and the map of velocity divergence for the gas (right - messy as it can be positive or negative...darker shades mark strong compressions, so shocks)

A few rotating views around a massive (1e15 Msol) simulated cluster of galaxies using ENZO, the almost uniform resolution in the centre is 4kpc/cell and the total volume on display here is (2Mpc)^3.

Left: magnetic field strength (a lot of filaments!).

Right: baryonic density

All rotations are done using SAO's DS9 after post-processing in #Julia

Bad news from #ERC: they have increased the time restrictions for the resubmission by candidates who got a rejected in previous applications. Basically they added 1 year of wait time to all candidates who did not pass Step 1 of previous calls **if I understand this correctly**

Motivation given: too many applications to process with the given amount of reviewers. Still I think it's a failure to introduce this cut. No, AI review is not the solution!

These are instead the small-scale turbulent velocity of baryons (left) and the vorticity of baryons (right). turbulence is patchy and not really uniform throughout the cluster volume, and is mostly organised in filaments and ropes.
