'Belief' is one of those words that need to be handled with care, particularly when talking about a belief in something that is inherently vague or not clearly defined.
It can too easily fix a person's thinking about a subject, reducing the inclination to continue questioning it.
Better perhaps to think in terms of levels and basis of current understanding?
