Getting #GodotEngine oiled up to the state it is now, where development speed is so incredibly fast and there is such good harmony with foundation, contributions and community took many many, _many_ years of refining processes for development, contribution, release management, moderation, etc.

I will do a talk about it at GodotCon in a week explaining parts of this process!

Pressing the fork button takes a second. Learning to do what we do takes a tiny bit more 😞.

I recently saw an IBM presentation on how AI will help eliminate COBOL once and for all. Basically, they are trying to sell a tool that uses their WatsonX cloud service to convert COBOL to Java with the help of the current buzzword named generative AI. Let me tell you, COBOL has outlasted most of the tech that was invented since 1965 and I think it will outlast generative AI, too.

I can't write C++ but I can still contribute to #GodotEngine: I've improved the docs, made & discussed proposals, and reported bugs.

I think it's particularly important that #gamedev professionals like me voice their needs. Our involvement literally shapes the engine. That, is open source.

The difference between C and C++ is that C has really basic memory unsafety, whereas C++ has very advanced memory unsafety

I’m super excited about this blogpost. The approach is so counterintuitive, and yet the results are so much better than anything else that we’ve tried for memory safety. We finally understand why.

Codeberg is moving ... and what this means to you — Codeberg News

Codeberg is moving, and you can imagine, moving a mountain takes time and...

I recently told two people the following words of wisdom, in different contexts:

You'll do what you'll do. You can always do 2x more but you won't; you'll only do what you'll do. If you do more then that is what you'll do. You've done all that you would do. If you imagine every other way it could have gone, you're seeing another universe; you won't have what that person has. Appreciate what you have, and focus on your strengths.

It's a wisdom I taught myself to avoid burnout. It usually works.

This isn’t a sob story. It’s just a small reminder that art—any art, really—doesn’t materialize out of nothing. It comes from the hours and effort of real people who would love, in a perfect world, to keep creating without interruption. But the truth is, without Patreon or something like it, we’d be spending those hours doing other things. Uninspired things like manning a cash register or whatever else you’d imagine when you think of what happens to people who aren’t lucky enough to… create.
