Look! Something tangible! Finally have some kind of grey-blocking system for laying out regions for the RPG world I want to build.

It's not pretty, but what is currently visible is just the data layer for calculating area/map transitions, sprite elevation, and walls/walkable tiles.

I can just layout areas in Tiled, export them and the spritesheets, and the program takes care of the rest.

Now I just need to find some good sprites to use, and actually map out what I want to show.

Going through some growing pains of optimization and what works.

So I'm implementing code that will prevent any unnecessary rendering and other logic. Got a basic level absolutely dynamically filled to the brim with sprites and content. Will optimize based on this, but will then do what other games do and basically pre-bake most of it to eliminate 90% of the work anyways.

Any tricks using the #Python Arcade library I should know?

One nice thing about rate limiting is that this tweet saved 8 people from looking at twitter for the rest of the day, *and* I made money doing it

The first chapter is an introduction of what a "Villain" is in the context of the book, and covers such subjects as "The Art Of Manipulation: How to Get What You Want Without Lying", "Why Greed Is Good: When to Draw the Line At Giving Away Your Hard Work", and "Revenge: It's Not About If But How".

Each chapter is meant to sound like the worst interpretation of a good quality people should have. I want people who set boundaries to be ready for being vilified by the real bad guys in their lives.

I'm also writing a book that uses my life experience to help people feel better about self-standards, setting boundaries, and saying no. I'm having fun.

It's a Villain Self Help book. It's not comedy, but it makes fun of lots of "unwritten rules" of society that we are expected to follow that have no purpose, and weaken people individually. People who say no are often seen as "Villains".

I actually find feel-good warm-fuzzy self-help not aggressive enough advice.

I spent about 6 years learning python, learning and designing a new system, and ultimately realized that while I could finish my project, it would be obsolete before it even released. The problems I wanted solved were being solved.

It would have also taken another 6 years at the pace I was working.

Being disabled doesn't help either.

So I have changed my project into a more do-able card game. I can test in Tabletop Simulator.

Still learning and working, but way more doable.

I have learned a lot, but honestly it's going to take way too long to finish what I am working on to really make it worth it. I am using up a LOT of time.

I am thinking of changing my project.

Right now it isnt that what I want to make is not possible, it's that it is basically a full team's worth of work being done by a solo part time. It has been 6 years and I am maybe half way done the project. At the very least I would think there must be a better way to do what I want to do.

I'm not going to scrap my stuff but I would rather figure out a way to release anything at all at this point than make one life's work out of a hobby project.

Having fun on Twitter unpicking a curious thing that happened to me this morning. Someone reached me on Signal thinking I was ChatGPT. Turned out it had given them my number.
