Highly recommend this post. It perfectly captures the internal conflicts and mindset shift I’ve gone through over the last 2 years of coding with AI.

@cdarwin Remember when Harris had an annoying laugh or whatever and something something Liz Cheney Gaza She Told Those Protesters She Was Speaking, therefore we needed to really fix her wagon by staying home in November 2024 and permitting these inept psychotic shitstains to control every material aspect of our futures again?
I think about that often.
It costs a missed opportunity to give more appropriate advice: stay away from google and use more private community forks of android that if I understand correctly will not be affected by googles papers please app ecosystem.
A strategy focusing on begging tech giants to not do the will of capital is basically lying to the public that there is a chance this can work.
In theory yes the open letter is a nice thing to have regardless of how google reacts because then we have something to point to how google is ignoring public opinion - but it needs to be presented with heavy caveats and we need to focus on getting average people out of googles grip so they don't hold this much power over us
When people are not celebrating the small victories in the long battles for human rights we are fighting, I am terrified.
I am terrified of the worse threat of all to our movements: Giving up.
I am terrified that when people forget to celebrate their wins, they get so tired and discouraged that they give up the fight entirely. Discouragement leads to apathy. And apathy leads to defeat.
Please please, I implore you:
Take care of your mood
Celebrate the small wins 🎉
Give others some time to celebrate, even when victories are only partial
We need hope to survive and thrive 💚

I personally believe the most logical, and long-term sustainable solution with the most control to the "Android becoming more closed" threat, is to fund and support @postmarketOS and alike initiatives.
a fully decentralised solution developed by the whole FOSS ecosystem together is infinitely better than depending on the whims and generosity of big tech companies.
And, they still get to support the ecosystem by committing Linux/etc patches upstream, it just has better power balance in the end.
