If Labor’s not going to raise the rate of JobSeeker then they’re not allowed to remind us that Albo had it rough too.

That’s the new rule.

Also, shame on them for not raising it.

"It has been said that the best measure of a scientist's influence is how long they can hold up progress in their own discipline. By this measure, the editors of the major economics journals are probably the most influential scientists of all time!"
- Herman Daly, 1991
Costa Rica implemented a ban on deforestation of mature forests in 1996. Secondary forests (those that regrow naturally after being cleared or degraded) were protected in 2016. While it's one of the most successful cases of reforestation in the world, deforestation remains a threat in some parts of the country, particularly in areas where agriculture and ranching continue to drive land use change.

The RBA is absolutely *not* independent. It's a facade meant to depoliticise their actions, but they're only independent so long as they don't challenge what the government expects of them.

The RBA board is the Governor, the Deputy Governor, the Secretary to the Treasurer, and six other board members, all appointed by the government. Normally the government might not exert direct oversight, but it is a comedy to suggest that these employees are "independent" of their boss.

Jim Chalmers is the person who made this decision, and it clearly bothers him that he doesnt get the credit for it, so here he is taking a victory lap for something that supposedly someone else did.

I'm not really following the news anymore. Are there any journalists trying to hold the government to account for these obvious lies?

Does Chalmers insistence on cramming "independent" in there not read like a massive red flag for commentators?

1/ Here is the most comprehensive polling on gender identity in Australia.

Polling was done by Melbourne Uni with a sample size of 21,734

Clear national support for Gender Self ID and plurality support for there being more than 2 genders.

We've all heard a lot of nonsense recently about women being silenced on trans issues.

Well when women get to speak it's clear they support trans rights more than men. A clear majority of women are pro trans. This should be completely unsurprising to anyone who pays attention.

Today is Australia's Earth Overshoot Day. If every country lived the way Australians do, then today would be the day we consumed enough resources as the earth could provide in a year.

We have the technology, ingenuity and will to push this later next year. Let's make it happen. https://www.overshootday.org/newsroom/country-overshoot-days/

Country Overshoot Day 2026 calendar

The Country Overshoot Day 2026 calendar shows the dates by which humanity would have used up everything Earth can renew for that year, if all people consumed at the level of that country.

The cost of living is rapidly rising. Inflation is the highest it’s been in 30 years. What’s driving it? What are the consequences? And how should we respond? Hear from economists Professor Steve Keen and Frank Stilwell and join the debate.

The 5-day work week isn't some innate feature of human nature. The 2-day weekend only exists because unions demanded it.
