Does Chalmers insistence on cramming "independent" in there not read like a massive red flag for commentators?

The RBA is absolutely *not* independent. It's a facade meant to depoliticise their actions, but they're only independent so long as they don't challenge what the government expects of them.

The RBA board is the Governor, the Deputy Governor, the Secretary to the Treasurer, and six other board members, all appointed by the government. Normally the government might not exert direct oversight, but it is a comedy to suggest that these employees are "independent" of their boss.

Jim Chalmers is the person who made this decision, and it clearly bothers him that he doesnt get the credit for it, so here he is taking a victory lap for something that supposedly someone else did.
