If anyone wants a glimpse into the schizophrenia that is occurring with many public service cyber folk these days

IN ONE WORLD:

We engage in working groups, sharing collective information about threats, challenges, and approaches needed to protect our agencies and the public we serve

We work together to publish this information so others can learn from our experiences

Our teams respond daily to ensure that our systems and data are not compromised

IN ANOTHER WORLD:

Photo shows Trump officials still using Signal after president discourages it

A photo of former national security advisor Mike Waltz's phone drew attention shortly after Trump tapped him to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Visa wants to give artificial intelligence 'agents' your credit card

Visa is hoping to hand your credit card to an artificial intelligence β€œagent” that can find and buy clothes, groceries, airplane tickets and other items on your behalf. Set a budget and some preferences and the AI assistant can make the purchases. Visa announced its new AI credit card plan Wednesday after months of working behind the scenes with leading AI chatbot developers such as Anthropic, Microsoft, OpenAI and Perplexity. Pilot projects begin Wednesday but it could take some time before average credit card users can ask an AI assistant to order their weekly grocery lists.

In response to customer confusion over the multitude of Copilot-branded products and features, on Wednesday Microsoft announced Copilot Copilot.

This new AI companion will help knowledge workers and consumers navigate the hundreds of other Copilots released by Microsoft. Copilot Copilot can draft prompts to other Copilots and summarize other Copilots' output.

In a disclaimer, Microsoft cautions users that Copilot Copilot may occasionally hallucinate other Copilots.

Copilot Copilot replaces the existing Copilot for Copilot product, but is not to be confused with Copilot for Copilot 365, which will still be offered to enterprise customers who are also, themselves, Copilots.

No longer flush with emergency aid, the biggest U.S. transportation systems are facing a combined $6 billion shortfall for years to come, and ridership hasn’t yet returned to its pre-COVID peak. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/04/30/world/shortfall-us-mass-transit/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #worldnews #trains #buses #publictransportation #us

The Trump administration is drastically reining in federal spending, creating fear of job losses that could again decimate ridership.

Kristi Noem spoke at RSA today and said she had had a "candid" conversation with tech leaders here in SF earlier in the day. My understanding is they were executives in tech, critical infrastructure, and cyber.

Do you know of anyone who attended? I'm looking for details of the guest list and what the conversation was like. Can keep your identity private. Signal is kevincollier.01, email kevin.collier@nbcuni.com.

The bicycle education program at the Monterey County Probation Department Youth Center was founded by Bicycling Monterey in April 2012 and still rolls on in April 2025!

The bike tech class seriesβ€”providing bicycle repair and maintenance instructionβ€”is only possible because of two volunteers who stepped up in 2012 and still continue volunteering on this 13th anniversary: Frank Henderson and Luciano Rodriguez.

A new grad I know almost got caught by the 'we'll send you a cheque for equipment' employment scam. Luckily, there were enough other red flags in the process (no face-to-face interview, email domains that didn't match the company that the recruiter claimed to work for) that he asked me and spouse for advice before he shared any more personal details with the scammer. This is a reminder to make sure the people in your life who are new to the workforce (and others too) know about scams like this.

This is exactly the kind of low-hanging fruit that ebikes are perfect for and could make a massive difference in our transportation system. The majority of car trips in the US are less than 3 miles, and there are plenty of people for whom owning a car is a huge (often insurmountable) cost burden. Make bikes & ebikes free (or close to it) for those folks. The benefits pay for themselves. #BikeNYC
