Here's a link to my case study looking at Family Vlogging Through the Lense of Social Media Ethics: Is it Ethical for Minors to be on Monetized Accounts on Social Media?
I had so much fun doing this case study and only wish I had more time this month to devote to reviewing this topic more. I feel like I only scratched the surface of the topic!

Family Vlogging Through the Lense of Social Media Ethics: Is it Ethical for Minors to be on Monetized Accounts on Social Media? – Communication Ethics
@jjsylvia That sounds great. Thank you for the feedback. This topic encompasses so much so having that focus to start with really helps!
@arazzano Great idea for your final project. I also considered Covid as the topic but decided on another interest I had. Those questions are great and really highlight the ethical considerations of the impact of the misinformation shared on platforms
I would like to do my Ethics Case Study project on Ethical considerations regarding children and youth on social media platforms, specifically family bloggers. Should parents be allowed to profit from content of their / minors online? What are the ethical implications of parents building personal brands/platforms on children who are not old enough to make the choice for themselves? What is the role that the platforms themselves play in the ethical consideration of children online?
@jjsylviaIn regards to privacy policies and content moderation in the Fediverse, "stealing data" seems to be less of a threat, due to it being decentralized. I found a really great article explaining how privacy, censorship and content moderation differs from mainstream socials. Don't like/agree with a servers or "instances" policies, go look for another server, or, use your own. Also, very interesting to know that deleting content can be a bit trickier in the fediverse.

Here's why the fediverse is empowering users like never before
The 'fediverse' and its potential for user empowerment are transforming future online interactions and privacy.
Tech Wire AsiaDecentralization means the Fediverse feels more authentic. Yes you can link your business and push your skill/ content/ music etc., but for people to get to it they have to be actively seeking it. I did see suggestions based on my follows, but other than that, Mastodon feels more academic, authentic, less braggy, less entertaining/ more purposeful, and it makes me feel less like showing off and more like showing up.
The decentralized nature of the Fediverse influences privacy by giving the user full control over how their content is shared. We aren't the product in the fediverse. This means we show up and can choose what to consume by searches and engagement on our terms (after we agree to the terms of our server). We aren't being "sold" to advertisers and so the process of finding communities we're interested in, is driven by the Creator and not the algorithm. In turn, things seem a bit more authentic.
"why would i bother reading something no one bothered to write" is the sickest ai-burn ive seen in a while
