Decentralization means the Fediverse feels more authentic. Yes you can link your business and push your skill/ content/ music etc., but for people to get to it they have to be actively seeking it. I did see suggestions based on my follows, but other than that, Mastodon feels more academic, authentic, less braggy, less entertaining/ more purposeful, and it makes me feel less like showing off and more like showing up.
