We’re creating a new #resource page to help those applying for independent positions, by sharing advice on navigating the process. We have 4 fantastic examples in our post and need your help to collect more.

If you have written, or come across any advice that you think we should share; comment below or on our post

There is still time to apply for the @Dev_journal 'Pathway to Independence' programme.
Deadline: 31 Jan

Collating advice for job applications - the Node

The application process for Principal Investigator positions can be daunting, especially if you don't know what to expect and don't have the necessary

Hello everyone and welcome to Genomic Social for the new year of 2023.

We currently have ~3228 users
~2187 were active in the last month
~2691 since we started in November

The server currently costs me ~$250 AUD/month to run (with current size.

That is about 7c per user, or 11c per active user for the last month.

79 people have donated to the Librepay to help me cover costs. So far I have received $3354.28 AUD, with 3 months spent, at $750AUD leaving 10.4 Months of funding. That's great!

Plus, the honeymoon period is usually longer than the couple of months rotations last, while generally the MSc thesis internship (either 1x 1y or 2x 6m, depending on country) usually help quite a lot with it, especially if you take advantage of if to interact with multiple labs in the department...

But maybe I'm just too soaked into the European system πŸ˜…

@maxvcg I might be missing the sarcasm/subtoot reference, but I've seen this concern expressed a few times and I don't get the problem...

Isn't this what we do for literally any other job, and two university degrees before that? (BSc+MSc)

Also, it's a job contract and you can get out of it and start somewhere else. If doing it it's a problem the institute has a bigger issue than the lab IMHO

Tootorial is my favorite term so far for what was called Tweetorials over there.
Wow! Pubmed will start indexing #preprints of NIH-funded research starting early this year! HT @ASAPbio

@Radboud_uni will now use its mastodon account as primary platform and cross-posts to twitter (instead of the other way around).

way to go!πŸ‘
