In this episode, Laura shares her personal experience, and ways we can design more inclusively.

Laura, with help from Jane McFadyen and Rachel Malic, has carried out extensive research into dyscalculia, maths anxiety and low numeracy, and created the accessible numbers project to help design better for people who struggle with numbers.

More on that here: https://accessiblenumbers.com

Designing services for people who need help with numbers

Low numeracy affects half of adults in the UK. Many live with the limitations of not understanding numbers and the impact that has on everyday life.

How to design services for people who need help with numbers.

It's been stressful and I almost gave up. And while the site isn't perfect, I think it's in a good place.

I hope it's useful to many.

Designing for people with dyscalculia and low numeracy – Design in government

We believe in working in the open. This blog is for designers across government to share their projects, ideas and concepts, or just to think out loud.

@simonrjones Thank you Simon, hope to see you there!

@simonrjones

Omg - yea! Probably the easiest problem to fix, too.

I am happy dyscalculia is mentioned in the WCAG guidance but I think it's hard to read/understand ironically.

Hello,

Are there any #gamers with #dyscalculia or who struggle with numbers out there?

I love games (bord games and online) but sometimes the instructions or UI/UX lets me down.

What's your experience?

I'm trying to promote dyscalculia to game devs/designers.

@mrmonkington

That's ace, thanks Mark. 😍

@MartinNutbeem

Thanks Martin, good to hear it. Please let me know if you use the poster. I'd love to work up some case studies.

We have a backlog of content so more posts to come.

Greatful for your support.

@simonrjones Hey Simon, most people have heard of dyslexia, but dyscalculia not so much.

I wrote more about my experience in another article. Maybe it will help :).
