I was enlightened to learn that Discworld vampires may replace their thirst for human blood by aquiring a replacement special interest, be it photography, or music or anything else...

My theory then is Count von Count is a discworld vegetarian vampire whose interest is counting numbers

Oh! And earlier I was looking for a recipe.

You know that one from the 70's (it may be later for you but for me it started in the 70's) where you slice up cabbage, and crumble uncooked ramen into it and make a dressing using the seasoning packet?

Me, looking for the OG recipe:

You put sunflower seeds in it??

You toast the ramen in... BUTTER??

Yeah I'm a little broken from all that too.

Then it turns out it's in my cookbook I made like 30 years ago. 🤦‍♀️

Utagawa Hiroshige (Japanese, 1797–1858). New Year's Eve Foxfires at the Changing Tree, Oji, No. 118 from One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, 9th month of 1857. Woodblock print, sheet: 14 3/16 x 9 1/4 in. (36.0 x 23.5 cm); image: 13 3/8 x 8 3/4 in. (34.0 x 22.2 cm), this impression in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum. #arthistory #asianart #woodblock #woodblockprint #printmaking

From the museum: “In the late 1850s, while Japanese color prints were dominated by themes of the fantastic, Hiroshige emphasized the realities of the observed world in his work. However, here he has ventured into the world of spirits. It was believed that on New Year's Eve all the foxes of the surrounding provinces would gather at a particular tree near Oji Inari Shrine, the headquarters of the regional cult of the god Inari. There the foxes would change their dress for a visit to the shrine, where they would be given orders for the coming year. On the way, the animals would emit distinctive flames by which local farmers were able to predict the crops of the coming year.”

"As global population ages and dementia rates climb, scientists may have found an unexpected ally in the fight against cognitive decline.

Cats and dogs may be exercising more than just your patience: they could be keeping parts of your brain ticking over too. In a potential breakthrough for preventive health, researchers have found that owning a four-pawed friend is linked to slower cognitive decline by potentially preserving specific brain functions as we grow older."

Science explains why cat ladies live longer! 😏😻

Owning dog or cat could preserve some brain functions as we age, study says

Fish or bird ownership showed no significant link to slower cognitive decline in study with implications for ageing societies

Dentist got axe loose from between my molars and I did not ated him per our agreement. But when axe came loose it fell into my throat and I coughed it into my sinuses. Then I sneezed. Hard. With flames. Gave dentist a decent burial after I went through his pockets.

@sk76 And also in the photo is legendary nightclub The Blue Note, with Ellington on the marquee!

@sk76

Wimpy's! The first American hamburger joint in Dublin.
I have to say, I was not impressed. I'm fish and chips all the way.

@sk76 look at ads back then. “Milk”. They didn’t try to sell it as a lifestyle product or anything!

@sk76 Totally amazing photo. Love it! All the men wear hats, of course. Tram tracks in the street. Brilliant advertising slogan: “the glorified hamburger”.

I have the privilege to live in a large town in the UK that’s got a Wimpy’s since quite a few years. Not worth talking about.

@sk76 Is this where the Wimpy character in the Popeye cartoon got his name? He always requested a burger “for which he would gladly pay on Tuesday.”
