The stories about 10x engineers never include:
• Adding meaningful test coverage
• Updating outdated README sections
• Mentoring junior engineers
• Listening to burned-out coworkers
• Improving on-call runbooks

No glory in these things, but those that do them are the ones you desperately want to keep.

They plant trees they don't expect to sit under.

Seriously though i’m biased because i’m a fiber arts sicko but if you want to see a c. 1500 masterpiece in paris i highly recommend skipping the mona lisa and seeing the lady and the unicorn tapestries:

- way less people
- rabbits
- you can get like 1 inch away if you want
- dozens of rabbits
- looks even better in person, instead of much worse
- seriously they’re HUGE
- moving visual disquisiton on the 5 senses plus bonus mysterious sixth sense
- it has bunmy rabbits

Small joy: I managed to drag myself out (masked of course) to pick a few of the bountiful berry harvest in my front yard. I quit after a few minutes, but I didn’t black out or fall! And a neighbourhood girl was passing by on her bike and stopped to point out my yard to her mother. “Look mom! This is like the magical forest place because it has so many trees! I like it!” It made my heart happy. #covid #gardening #berries

Microplastics are everywhere—but our methods to track them are all over the place

A new study from the University of Portsmouth has highlighted the growing role of citizen science in tackling one of the planet's most pervasive pollution problems: microplastics and mesoplastics. While researchers often warn that a lack of standardized protocols risks muddying the waters, this research shows that public involvement could be key to plugging the data gaps and that comparability rather than conformity is key.

Chicago’s rodents are evolving to handle city living

Scientists recently found an example of evolution in real time, tucked away in the collection drawers of the Field Museum in Chicago. By comparing the skulls of chipmunks and voles from the Chicagoland area collected over the past 125 years, the researchers found evidence that these rodents have been adapting to life in an increasingly urban environment.
