I write a lot of #microfiction, mostly #historical, #supernatural, and #fantasy, but I also have a couple of #SciFi and #futuristic stories.

I like taking photos of small things: lichen and moss and fungi and flowers, and also wandering through graveyards... and also wandering through family history records either at the library or online.

The snow fell, tiny icicles dancing from the sky to collect in soft drifts that the other children ran through and fell into and scooped up, as though there was nothing to it, as though it didn't freeze you to the bone the moment you left the warmth of the house. Saskia watched on, desperate to join the fun, held back by the knowledge she'd end up with numb fingers and a frozen nose and stinging ears. Being a water spirit was no fun when you were frozen solid.

Macquarie university has released its latest author income survey. No great surprises - we know how tough it’s been.

For literary authors, an average income of $14500 from creative work - a decrease in real terms.

One of the nicest things about #Shetland winters is when the mirrie dancers appear. Mirr means blur in Shetland #dialect. Tonight as I watched the #AuroraBorealis , it really did appear like dancing figures, the speed of their movement obscuring their edges as they merged with the darkness #nature #Scotland #aurora
