I just launched Quorbo at https://quorbo.com, a simple letter-revealing game (think Wheel of Fortune with some twists) where you get 6 turns to guess the day's quote!

It's my first post-parenthood side project, first thing to ship since ditching Twitter for Mastodon, and first web game. Being a working dad has taught me (for the first time,😬) to focus on simplicity. Anyway, i hope you have fun with it!

The quick & quirky quest for the quote!

Stop glamourising ā€œhustle cultureā€ and start glamourising the Frog and Toad lifestyle.

I’ll come to bed soon. I’m on Mastodon, and I’ve never seen so many people online before who aren’t wrong on the internet!

It’s glorious.

Today in scary-as-fuck things that happened on Twitter:

Replies were down for about two hours there on Twitter. You couldn't reply if you were on a web browser, either on PC or on mobile.
That's not the scary part.

The scary part is that you couldn't *discover* that anything was wrong. No trending hashtag. No streams filling up with people taking about replies being broken. No hundred polls saying, "hey, is this happening to you, too?"

Just... silence. As if everything is totally fine.

Each year, the night before the Boston Marathon, hundreds of cyclists meet at the race's starting line in Hopkinton for an unofficial, unsanctioned event: a midnight ride along the marathon’s 26.2 mile route. Here's my @gbhnews story on the tradition. https://www.wgbh.org/news/local-news/2023/04/13/for-crowds-of-cyclists-a-midnight-ride-before-the-boston-marathon-is-an-enduring-tradition For the audio version (red "play" button at the top) I biked more than I have in a single trip since high school, including Heartbreak Hill.
For crowds of cyclists, a 'midnight ride' before the Boston Marathon is an enduring tradition

The informal nocturnal event has drawn thousands of bikers in past years.

I like putting things onto to do lists, and I LOVE checking things off of to do lists. What I struggle with is the middle part.

I honestly have a lot of empathy for people who are having trouble letting go of Twitter because they used to be popular, or very engaged, there. I made amazing relationships there, and there was a time when I really loved the feedback loop I had. (I didn’t care that much about being ā€œknownā€, but I valued the access it gave me.) It’ll be years before the fediverse reaches its own equivalent strengths, and I don’t fault anyone for struggling to transition from a familiar (if failing) platform.
