I always forget that one little cure for imposter syndrome is that there are so many people in the world, it's unlikely that you're ever the first person to make that mistake.
Have just been described as a client's favorite "hopeless semantic." And I love it.
Just booked my spot at the CIEP 2023 conference in Glasgow this September. I'm so excited! It's the first time I'm attending in person.

@GeckoEdit agree! Sometimes you need a little explaining, but it all depends on the tone of the piece, the importance that you understand the information exactly, and how much work you can expect your reader to do depending on your genre and audience. (Like you may have to explain how a character died exactly in a murder mystery, but you can be more subtle and artful in another type of fiction)

"Show, don't tell" can be taken too literally and result in a lot of stage-directing and overreliance on visual elements (and pointing and turning and looking and smiling).

I prefer "Evoke, don't explain." Use all the senses and use imagery/figurative language to build those moods and atmospheres.

But that "don't" is a soft "don't." Sometimes a little explaining is okay. It's all about balance.

Howzit! A bit of specialized knowledge helped me with the catch of the day today. When referring to South African provinces in a sentence, some take a definite article and others don't:
Let's go to...
... the Eastern Cape.
... the Western Cape.
... the Northern Cape.
... the Free State.
BUT
... Limpopo.
... KwaZulu-Natal.
... Mpumalanga.
... Gauteng.
... North West. (This one bugs me.)

Why did February feel twice as long as January when it's several days shorter? This is unacceptable. I would like to speak to the manager.
